β€’ Your work on the Emerging Defenses team will directly provide safety and privacy to Airbnb users worldwide. β€’ You will be leading a team of engineers and work cross-functionally building toward the safest communication platform. β€’ You will be involved in core company launches and build for the future of safe communication regardless of medium: phone, VoIP, SMS, in-app chat, and video conferencing. β€’ It will bring privacy and safety to guests and hosts while keeping fraudsters off of the platform. β€’ As a staff engineer in Trust, your contributions will span a variety of shapes: Build a marketplace of products that ensure safety and privacy of guests and hosts. β€’ Provide technical vision and support other engineers' growth. β€’ Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners, including software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and operations to identify opportunities for business impact, and refine and prioritize requirements for fraud detection and mitigation. β€’ Hands-on develop, productionize, and operate machine learning models and pipelines at scale, including both batch and real-time use cases. β€’ Enhance and extend risk investigation tools to enable efficient decision-making on behaviors that could result in physical safety or property damage incidents.

🎯 Requirements

β€’ BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning or a related field (or equivalent industry experience) β€’ 10+ years of experience in software engineering in a fast-paced tech environment β€’ Strong programming skills (Java / Scala / Python / C++ or equivalent) with deep expertise in architectural patterns and designing scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems in a service-oriented architecture β€’ Exposure to ML or interest in ML β€’ Proven experience partnering with cross-functional leaders to define product/technical strategy and drive alignment β€’ Experience leading large-scale, multi-team, multi-platform projects that require extensive collaboration, influencing and decision-making capabilities β€’ Strong technical leadership with the ability to mentor engineers and set technical direction for the team β€’ Desire to work collaboratively with cross-functional partners, such as design, product, data science, infrastructure, policy, operations, and legal partners β€’ Passion to level-up those around you through curiosity and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
