• Come join our amazing team! • Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for assisting the Legal Department with various contested or escalated matters in order to facilitate implementation of an appropriate and timely course of action. • Perform all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, all US state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the company operates. • Assist in reviewing pleadings prepared by outside counsel, including but not limited to, summons, complaints, affidavits, answers, motions, orders and judgments. • Assist in reviewing and preparing discovery responses and objections, timely obtaining executed verifications, and reviewing proposed redactions. Locate knowledgeable persons to help develop responses to interrogatories and other discovery requests. • Review and prepare responses to various written correspondence received in relation to contested matters. • Open and maintain matters in case management system, including but not limited to, analyzing complaints, investigating claims, retaining outside counsel where appropriate and providing outside counsel with requisite loan servicing and origination record. • Assist outside counsel with securing key personnel for mediations, depositions, and other events that require personal/telephonic appearance. • Maintain calendar for events requiring appearance by legal department staff and key deadlines. • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, treatises, code sections, and analyze issues to prepare legal documents and memos. • Conduct factual research, gathering relevant information from a variety of resources, such as legal research sources, newspapers, libraries, police and fire departments, trade associations and the media. • Assist with case settlement by gathering and organizing data and information needed for settlement, preparing proposed requests for settlement approval, requesting settlement payments, reviewing settlement agreements and releases, and circulating agreements for signature. • Take lead in pre-claim title investigation/review, including reviewing title records, organizing documents and creating a chronology of facts, preparing and submitting written claims, securing response from insurer and preparing memos regarding submission of and response to claim and proposed course of further action. • Perform duties such as photocopying and scanning documents. • Serves as liaison between outside counsel, internal departments, and in-house attorneys when necessary and appropriate, including obtaining regular status updates. • Manage the intake and preparation of responses to Subpoenas. • Provide business units with monthly status of pending litigation, contested matters, or remediation of title issues. • Resolve routine legal issues under the direction of an attorney. • Prepare and maintain quarterly pre-litigation and litigation reports
• Good understanding of mortgage servicing and litigation. • Intermediate skills in MS Suite, Word, Excel required. • Strong writing and proofreading skills. • Ability to understand complex problems, pay close attention to details, and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions. • Ability to make decisions that have significant impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside the immediate work unit. • Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints. • Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule on short-term basis (longer than one month). • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and to record, balance, and check results for accuracy. • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, communicating orally with others accurately, audibly, and quickly. • Ability to accurately track and record time. • Associate’s degree from accredited college plus paralegal certification or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. • Two (2) or more years’ experience working as a paralegal. • Two (2) or more years’ experience working in mortgage servicing
