Description
• The Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist reviews and analyzes health records to identify opportunities to clarify diagnoses and procedures. • Works collaboratively with health care professionals and coding team to ensure accurate clinical information. • Conducts comprehensive initial and follow-up concurrent reviews of medical records. • Identifies opportunities to clarify incomplete or conflicting documentation. • Prepares compliant written queries for treating physicians. • Tracks physician query responses documented in the medical record. • Maintains productivity and established performance benchmarks for quality. • Collaborates with Coding team on inquiries related to ICD-10 coding and/or MS-DRG assignment. • Complies with HIPAA and code of conduct policies.
Requirements
• Graduation from accredited School of Nursing with ADN or BSN OR graduation from accredited medical school with MD or MD equivalent • Must maintain current/active credential while employed • Minimum 2+ years acute care hospital experience, CDI experience, or acute care inpatient hospital coding experience • CCDS, CDIP, CCS (preferred) • Familiarity with encoder and DRG assignment (preferred) • Critical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to resolve problems (preferred) • Current working knowledge of Official Coding Guidelines and Coding Clinics (preferred) • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and disease process (preferred)
