Description

• Partner with product to deeply understand customer needs with regards to data warehouse cost and performance • Deeply research different parameters that impact database performance, and use findings to propose improvements to Keebo products • Create rapid, tightly-scoped proofs of concept for algorithms to improve database performance and cost • Mentor other engineers in database performance knowledge and rapid prototyping

Requirements

• Significant experience delivering innovative improvements to analytical databases or a PhD in Database systems plus some experience delivering improvements to analytical databases • Extensive experience with database performance tuning, including caching, dynamic scaling, etc. • Experience with and a passion for researching different parameters that impact database performance • Experience with and a passion for running methodical experiments, with controlled variables, and documented reproducibility • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools • Track record of rapidly prototyping ideas and building MVPs for customer feedback • Experience partnering with product to turn customer requirements into well-specified, technical work, and mentoring other engineers to do the same • Passion for mentoring engineers in database performance knowledge, rapid prototyping, and data engineering best practices • Writes clean, high quality, well-documented, readable code, with good test coverage • Extensive familiarity with SQL, databases, data warehouses, and big data processing tools • Familiarity with cloud technologies and tools on cloud platforms • Familiarity with modern CI/CD tools • Skilled at communicating effectively in a distributed environment with people across multiple time zones • Strong self-motivation, initiative, and adaptability
