Description

• Produce, write, shoot and edit high-quality video content to enhance storytelling. • Collaborate with the editorial team to translate complex stories into visually compelling and accessible videos. • Shape and execute The Narwhal’s video strategy by contributing to new formats and ideas to expand our presence on platforms like YouTube, TikTok and our website. • Experiment with various styles — from social videos to explainers — to connect with diverse audiences and increase engagement with our content. • Work with the audience team to optimize video for different platforms, ensuring proper formatting, captioning and maximizing reach. • Help set and achieve video production goals, including increasing views, follows and time spent on content. • Maintain high production standards for video, sound and lighting while balancing budget and resource limitations. • Collaborate with the audience team to explore video strategies, contribute to A/B testing and help convert viewers into members or donors. • Stay updated on digital video and audience engagement trends, bringing fresh ideas to enhance The Narwhal’s video efforts.

Requirements

• Proven experience in video production, including concept development, script writing, shooting, editing and post-production. • Proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, with knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Logic Pro and Media Encoder or similar tools. • Strong storytelling skills; able to translate complex topics into engaging video content. • Experience producing video for various platforms, including TikTok, YouTube and websites. • Familiarity with best practices in video optimization for social platforms (e.g., video length, aspect ratios, captions, titles). • A creative mindset, eager to experiment with different video formats and storytelling approaches. • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to ensure videos meet technical and creative standards. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across teams to bring ideas to life. • Commitment to inclusive storytelling that reflects diverse perspectives and voices. • Nice to have Experience with environmental or investigative journalism. • Experience and comfort being on camera and doing voice overs. • Knowledge of social media video trends and strategies for increasing engagement. • An interest in working with data to optimize video performance (e.g., tracking views, audience retention, engagement).
