• Reporting to the Director UW Standards & QA, BI, CA is responsible for design and execution of Business Insurance underwriting standards and controls. • Responsible providing objective, independent, risk-based underwriting quality and control evaluation of Travelers Canada Business Insurance. • Manage & monitor the design and execution of underwriting guidelines and controls for Travelers Canada Businesses. • Conduct ongoing assessments of all Underwriting controls to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, consistency, as well as utilization of best practices. • Ensure that there is a consistent and timely framework for the establishment and maintenance of Underwriting Manuals.

Requirements

• Educated to degree standard preferred. • 5 years business unit specific underwriting experience. • Has solid understanding of commercial lines underwriting strategy, products, financials and issuing systems as well as how a strong controls environment is built to reinforce consistent and compliant execution of the business strategy. • Broad underwriting experience across classes of business and lines of business. • Has strong knowledge of market conditions. • Strong strategic thinker and decision-maker. • Consistently sets clear direction by defining goals and priorities. • Develops a high degree of trust through demonstrated personal integrity, ethics and a commitment to doing the right thing. • Energizes others to commit to achieving the highest standards. • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages everyone to act in the best interest of the company. • Consistently demonstrates ability to influence and leverage behavior for the benefit of the company. • Acts with a sense of urgency. • Strong understanding of business objectives to drive bottom line results. • Acts in a decisive manner to achieve financial results. • Understands all related financial implications of Insurance Products, Risk Funding Approaches and Servicing strategies on expenses, income, etc. • Effectively coaches and mentors employees at all levels. • Promotes strong coalitions and networks both within and outside of Travelers Canada. • Takes responsibility for decisions and actions. • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. • Computer skills, including Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, etc. • Strong verbal and written communication. • Analytical skills. • Demonstrated project management. • Strong time management and organizational skills.
