Description

• Support American Rivers’ efforts to restore rivers and floodplains and advance equitable nature-based flood management solutions. • Lead a 50 State Integrated Floodplain Management (IFM) Strategy to advance IFM enabling conditions in states across the nation. • Work closely with members of American Rivers’ regional teams to develop and implement IFM campaigns in priority states. • Work with partners, including the National Floodplain Functions Alliance, to foster a network of IFM leaders across the nation. • Contribute to implementing American Rivers’ national floodplain policy agenda. • Execute American Rivers’ 50 State Floodplain Strategy to advance nature-based and equitable floodplain management. • Complete integrated floodplain management audits of all 50 states. • Lead the development of state IFM campaign strategies in collaboration with regional staff. • Advise and support the implementation of state IFM campaigns including policy, advocacy, fundraising, and partnership cultivation. • Cultivate a network of IFM leaders within the Natural Floodplain Functions Alliance and national and regional partners. • Effectively communicate floodplain restoration approaches and benefits to a wide array of audiences. • Represent American Rivers at conferences and other events. • Participate actively with the American Rivers National Floodplain Community of Practice, engaging in team meetings and collaboration. • Travel nationally for conferences, trainings, and retreats as needed. • Duties may be tailored to fit the skills and interests of the selected applicant.

Requirements

• Knowledge of floodplain management and river restoration is highly preferred; commitment to learn about these issue areas is essential. • Demonstrated commitment to nature-based solutions and diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice. • Demonstrated partnership building and/or coalition management experience. • A team player with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work well with a diverse range of people. • Experience working with multicultural communities, including engagement of Tribal nations and organizations, BIPOC, and Latino communities. • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience meeting challenging project deadlines. • Ability to manage budgets and project tasks. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to effectively communicate with partners and agency representatives. • Demonstrated strength in critical thinking, judgment, and dependability. • Must show initiative, coupled with creative and strategic thinking. • Minimum of 10 years of experience in river restoration, floodplain management, or an appropriate combination of education and relevant experience in a related field. • Four-year college degree in natural resources, public policy, or a relevant field.
