Description

β€’ This job can be done remotely and involves onsite research in archives, societies, and libraries. β€’ Help Church members fulfill their responsibility to discover their families through family history methods. β€’ Provide high quality service to support the initiatives of the Family History Department. β€’ Learn basics of providing genealogical analysis, consultation, research, instruction, and translation/transcription. β€’ Consultants should have excellent research skills in identifying original records and working onsite in genealogical/historical societies. β€’ Ability to travel as onsite research may be required in specified states where Church history occurred. β€’ Involves finding materials that have not been previously identified.

Requirements

β€’ Bachelor's degree in family & local history, languages or archival/library sciences, or a related field and 1 year full-time professional experience in a library or genealogical/historical research experience; or equivalent education & experience. β€’ Able to quickly learn & apply proven genealogical strategies when doing research in some basic records & resources & knowledge of basic resources & record sets as determined by geographic area. β€’ Able to develop sound genealogical conclusions from records using direct evidence; compile well documented pedigrees; & proficient in using basic resources & record sets to verify locality of family, birth of direct line ancestor, determine marriage of parents, identify complete families. β€’ Excellent patron interaction, language & grammar skills to assist with writing in Wiki & answering correspondence. β€’ Meet dept presentation & training standards with skills in PowerPoint & other presentation media. β€’ Understanding of the history & culture of the geographic/subject area from the mid 1800s. β€’ Competent with Microsoft Office & FamilySearch products. β€’ Ability to decipher clearly written records. β€’ Fluency reading & writing basic records in 1 foreign language.
