• We are looking for a strategic and collaborative communications professional to join us as our Regional Communications Strategist. • This role on our External Affairs team will work closely with our state and other teams to coordinate and support communication strategies and will play a key role in keeping our national team aware of trends and opportunities emerging in our work. • This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of translating public policy issues into narratives and stories that compel volunteers, voters, and others to support our efforts to create a more equitable and accountable government. • This is a full-time role reporting to the Communications Director; this role is remote anywhere within the lower 48 United States with a preference for someone on the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic, with an expectation to travel up to one week per month. • Responsibilities include developing communications strategies, establishing relationships with news outlets, drafting and pitching content, and managing social media accounts.
• Experience drafting, pitching and placing op-eds and press releases in news outlets • Experience working with reporters to proactively shape the narrative of stories; ideally you have existing contacts with media outlets • Experience creating and/or executing communication plans • Experience managing social media accounts for organizations or leaders, and adapting ‘voice’ to write on behalf of others • Ideally you have experience preparing and training leaders to speak to the media (including drafting messaging and talking points) • Ideally you have knowledge of congressional or state legislative operations and political campaigns, and have translated data, research and/or public policy into compelling narratives • Ability to travel up to one week per month to meet with other teams, and for team and/or all staff retreats • Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party
