Description

• We are looking for content/curriculum writers for one of our education partners. • The content writer will develop lessons for a US History (1877- present) high school course curriculum. • The lesson plan format and examples are provided. • Lessons include compelling and supporting questions, embedded formative tasks and project-embedded summative tasks; thorough, accurate, and well sourced research; appropriate text complexity of sources; cognitively and behaviorally engaging instructional routines and strategies; application of culturally responsive practices in design methods; collaborative and effective at integrating internal and external reviewers’ feedback. • You will be responsible for creating: Handout Sources Handout Activities Teacher Guide Slides Additional documents to support pre planning, population of Instructional Strategies bank, and more as required. • You will be responsible for 1 lesson at a time, each lesson takes approximately 10 days, and 2-3 lessons will be completed per month. • The ideal candidate must possess a strong commitment to inquiry-based learning, demonstrate a deep understanding of pedagogy, have a strong background in teaching high school U.S. history from 1877 to the present, and be able to encourage students to engage with complex concepts in ways that are both relatable and comprehensible. • You will be fully integrated into our partner’s team and are also expected to attend 2 hours of meetings a week and peer review 25 lessons a year. • Timeline: January 2025 – May 2026. • Onboarding begins in January and lesson writing will begin in Feb 2025. • Contract writers will have 10-11 Business days to complete each lesson. • As part of the screening process you will be asked to complete a candidate performance task.

Requirements

• Have more than 5 years of overall professional experience as a full-time curriculum writer/developer within the field of secondary social studies. • Must have a degree or certification in education, teaching, history, and/or teaching secondary social studies. • Are knowledgeable of inquiry based curriculum and scope and sequence development. • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Can be available at least 2 hours a week during normal business hours (i.e., 9-4pm CST) to attend virtual meetings with the team. • Demonstrate expertise and experience in designing and implementing project-based inquiries. • Understand the role dimensions of diversity play in shaping education and instructional materials. • Approach curriculum development from a nonpartisan perspective. • Demonstrate career maturity and professionalism throughout the duration of the project as evidenced by: Adhering to the project schedule and communicating risks to the Project Manager as early as possible. • An ability to work in a remote environment and operate with limited direct supervision. • Engaging in self-directed learning during onboarding. • Using our organizational systems to communicate across the project.
