• Produce excellent articles about ballot measures according to guidelines • Track status of measures using state and legislative websites • Track and aggregate campaign finance for ballot measure PACs • Develop expertise in assigned states' ballot measure processes • Monitor news for relevant updates and add information to pages • Generate new content based on political trends • Analyze historical and local ballot measure data • Research historical data from archives and resources • Ensure communication of project progress to team members • Contribute to election night coverage and update results • Cover breaking news shifts during scheduled on-call shifts • Learn and master Ballotpedia’s Style Guide • Use and master tools like templates, spreadsheets, and database • Generate news stories for Ballotpedia News and newsletters • Appear on podcasts, videos, or webinars as needed • Field media requests when experienced
Requirements
• Strong passion for U.S. politics and elections • Excellent writing skills, concise and neutral • Effective time management and task prioritization • Adaptability to changes in the political environment • Ability to independently track news and legislative sites • Adept at analyzing data and identifying trends • Proficient organizational and proofreading skills • Ability to view content from various perspectives • Drive for innovation and flexibility • Ability to handle feedback positively • Experience with spreadsheets or databases preferred
Benefits
• Annual benefits stipend of $8,000 • Paid out in equal increments once benefits-eligible • Can be used for health, vision, dental insurance, retirement accounts, etc. • If not elected, stipend taxed as regular income
