• The Surplus & Specialty Division is seeking a dynamic and innovative actuary to join the team. • This role will focus on pricing-related activities for Surplus & Specialty lines of business, supporting the Binding Authority business unit within the division. • Reporting to the VP, Head of S&S Pricing, this position offers the opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial environment with the benefits of a smaller organization, • but the security, stability, and opportunity of a large conglomerate. • Perform profitability studies and provide business insight for the supported business units, including Binding Authority and other Surplus & Specialty lines. • Develop, maintain, and enhance predictive rating models and pricing tools tailored to the unique needs of the Surplus & Specialty market. • Provide actuarial large account pricing support to underwriters and business units to ensure competitive and profitable pricing. • Analyze the book results to identify performance outliers, monitor portfolio health, and uncover growth opportunities. • Collaborate with underwriting and leadership teams to develop and execute pricing and underwriting strategies for profitable growth. • Participate in the development of new products, provide due diligence on new business opportunities, and support regulatory initiatives as needed.
• BS in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, or a related major. • 7+ years of Commercial P&C Actuarial Pricing experience, with a focus on Surplus & Specialty lines preferred. • Experience in commercial lines such as GL, Property, and Excess is highly preferred. • ACAS or FCAS preferred. • Proficiency in MS Office products as well as SQL. • Knowledge of R and experience with predictive modeling techniques is strongly preferred. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and in writing. • The ability to clearly explain actuarial results and drivers to business partners. • Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a group setting. • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines. • Positive “do what it takes” attitude.
