📋 Description

• Provide legal guidance on compliance with education-focused privacy laws, including FERPA, COPPA, SOPIPA, state student privacy laws, and applicable regulations. • Partner with product and business teams to ensure privacy principles are embedded into curriculum development and digital platforms. • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy and data security terms in contracts with schools, districts, vendors, and technology partners. • Develop and implement policies and best practices for handling student and educator data in compliance with legal and ethical standards. • Monitor and interpret emerging privacy laws and regulatory trends, advising leadership on their impact on K-12 education. • Conduct internal privacy risk assessments and develop frameworks for data governance, security, and incident response. • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on privacy compliance, data protection, and best practices for handling student and educator data.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years’ experience advising on privacy laws, preferably in the education, technology, or curriculum development sectors • Familiarity or experience in Education or Education Technology • Deep knowledge of FERPA, COPPA, and state-specific student privacy laws, with an understanding of global privacy trends affecting K-12 institutions • Ability to balance compliance requirements with business needs, offering practical, risk-based guidance • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills related to data privacy and security • Ability to work cross-functionally, influencing stakeholders in legal, product, technology, digital, and business teams
