Description

•Manage and execute communications planning for Explorer-led programs •Lead outreach and engagement to amplify the Society’s mission •Execute media relations strategies in alignment with strategic plan •Cultivate media and visibility opportunities to tell Society’s story •Draft, refine, and distribute communications materials •Work with programmatic teams to collaboratively develop strategies •Contribute to communications strategies for major milestones and events •Manage creation and distribution of communications materials •Develop metrics reports that highlight impact of Society's reach •Monitor emerging issues and help develop organizational response

Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related fields •5+ years of experience in outreach, engagement, strategy, public relations with demonstrable experience in communications •Strong verbal communicator, able to convey complex ideas clearly •Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills •Understanding of media relations •Collaborative and strategic approach to responsibilities •Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines •Organized and detail-oriented •A quick and motivated learner with enthusiasm for the National Geographic Society’s mission •A proactive self-starter and creative problem solver •Strong news judgment and media relations skills •Experience with stakeholder engagement and DEI communications is a plus •Strong project management skills and experience with project management tools •Knowledge of AP Stylebook and proficiency with Cision
