• Advising Renew Capital management on legal issues related to investment activities • Supporting the legal functions of portfolio companies • Developing company policies/procedures and compliance programs • Creating and managing legal templates • Maintaining and improving SOPs for the Legal Unit • Managing relationships with outside counsel and overseeing their work • Keeping abreast of legal developments relevant to Renew Capital’s activities • Structuring investment vehicles; assisting with Angel and venture fund setups • Drafting investment agreements • Conducting due diligence on investments • Managing the closing process for investments • Drafting, reviewing and approving contracts with service providers • Maintaining intellectual property of Renew Capital • Advising on HR and employment issues • Staying up to date on legal topics and developments • Identifying and resolving conflicts of interest • Advising partners/staff on legal issues and risks

Requirements

• J.D. degree and a state bar member in good standing • At least 5 years’ experience practicing law in a law firm, government and/or in-house legal department setting, with increasing responsibility in areas of investments, international trade, corporate or commercial law and/or mergers and acquisitions • An ability to deliver creative legal solutions that take into account the cross-cultural realities of a U.S. / western investment firm operating in a frontier market setting • Demonstrated excellence and efficiency in written communications • Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diverse lay audience • Demonstrated enduring passion for harnessing the power of business for good • Demonstrated self-starter, capable of working independently • Demonstrated experience designing legal structures or drafting legal agreements for investments in companies based in frontier markets, preferably located in Africa • Demonstrated experience preparing successful applications for international development grant funding • Experience advising clients or employers on a wide range of legal matters as in-house counsel or in a similar capacity
