• Assesses the mortality risk of individual life insurance applications. • Assist in performing mortality and morbidity assessments. • Handle referrals from life underwriters. • Interpret resting and stress EKGs. • Provide strategic direction for medical underwriting. • Participate in continuous medical research and development. • Perform statistical analysis of mortality and morbidity. • Represent the company at industry meetings. • Maintain positive working relationships with Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial and Medical staff. • Research and design formal and informal medical underwriting training. • Understand medical impairments and their impact on risk. • Participate in underwriting manual updates and claims reviews. • Stay abreast of advances in medicine and risk selection innovations. • Pursue continuing medical education applicable to insurance medicine. • Establish strong working relationships with medical directors at reinsurance partners.
• Medical degree. • Board certified in family practice or internal medicine. • Five years of clinical experience. • Medical degree from an accredited medical school (Preferred). • Current license to practice medicine in the United States (Preferred). • Specialist certification in Internal Medicine or related subspecialty (Preferred). • Board of Insurance Medicine Certification or working towards is desirable. • Agreement to obtain Board Certification in Insurance Medicine is required. • Demonstrated expertise in EKG and stress ECG interpretation is desirable. • Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in clinical medical practice. • Experience in a remote, paperless environment is desirable. • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, communication skills, critical thinking, analytical skills, and sound judgment. • Ability to explain medical information to non-physicians. • Experience and education in data analytics and AI are highly desirable.
