• Directs the Building Resilient Communities team within the Service and Justice home area • Provides leadership in the ELCA’s work with global companions in relief and sustainable development • Plans strategically for effective ELCA/S&J engagement in international development and disaster response • Supervises the work of the Service and Justice BRC team • Manages funds for Lutheran Disaster Response and ELCA World Hunger • Coordinates ELCA response to international disasters/emergencies • Represents ELCA at governance and planning tables of related organizations
• 9+ years of relevant experience in development, social sciences, non-profit, emergency response and/or sustainable development work • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience • Strong understanding and appreciation for the mission, vision, values, goals, polity and theology of the ELCA • Understanding of Lutheran and ecumenical companions working in development and humanitarian response • Experience with cross-cultural engagement in developing countries • Experience with business administration, strategic planning, and communication • Strong financial, budgeting (international financial management a plus), supervising a diverse staff, and management skills • Ability to develop, manage, and interpret effective programs in development and disaster response • Ability to apply knowledge of sound principles of international humanitarian response and sustainable development • Understanding of the dynamics of decision-making within complex and multi-cultural church and NGO systems • Ability to engage effectively in cross-cultural program planning, decision-making, and team building • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel), accounting and budgeting software
