Description

• Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer and serving as an integral member of the Corporate Affairs organization. • The Head of Public Relations will be responsible for developing Transamerica’s public relations strategy and managing communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization’s brand reputation. • Key areas of responsibility include media relations (proactive and reactive), crisis communications and issues management, and leadership of the Public Relations team. • The ideal candidate is passionate about our businesses, our purpose of helping people live their best lives, and the opportunity to individually contribute as well as provide strategic leadership as part of a collaborative growth-focused organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or related field • 15 years of communications experience, including at least 5 years in a senior public relations role (in house or agency) • Financial services industry experience • Leadership skills to influence and drive change in a transformation environment while having worked with an organization that has undergone transformational change • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top tier reporters and editors, as well as successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high impact placements • Ability to quickly recognize and capitalize on breaking news and market developments, with attention to detail and superb execution skills • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence senior executives, as well as direct and indirect reports and peers • Ability to align messaging across internal and external communications and create efficiencies to amplify messaging • Strong writing and editing skills, as well as experience developing compelling pitches • Excellent organizational and planning skills • Ability to work quickly under pressure, handling and prioritizing multiple assignments • Experience in working with business-to-business and business-to-consumer companies • Recognized as a team player who enjoys working in a collaborative environment • Good judgement and ability to deal with sensitive/confidential matters
